What did Noah’s Ark and the Lord Jesus Christ have in common? This just goes to show you that God knows the future and knew exactly what to record about the ark in order to picture the Lord Jesus Christ.

I. Make thee an ark… (Genesis 6:14)

  • The Lord first warns of his impending judgment and moves with grace to provide salvation.
  • Grace of God came through an Ark and the grace of God comes through Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 1:4)
  • Application: Have you ever heard someone blame God for their own sin? God shouldn’t have made me since he knew I’d sin… But God has made his end right even as far as sacrificing his own son on your behalf…Truth is, you don’t have an argument against God

II. The ark was built in the open, was not hidden

  • Matthew 24:37-39… people disregarded God and went about their business
  • 2 Peter 2:5… the ark was preached about and disregarded by the public
  • Hebrews 11:7… Noah condemned the world
  • Application: the testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ was public
  • John 18:20… Jesus public ministry, a testimony to the way we should be
  • Titus 2:11.. appeared to all men

III. Make thee an ark of gopher wood…(Genesis 6:14)

  • The ark was not made of iron or steel but of living things that had to die in order that others might live so salvation comes through the Sacrifice of the life of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 5:2)

IV. Pitch it within and without with pitch (Genesis 6:14)

  • The Ark was completely sealed and all in Jesus Christ are sealed (Ephesians 4:30)
  • Application: The kids asked why no water seeped into the ark?  The ark was tossed around on the waves in the and pushed about, but the wrath of God never touched those onboard, likewise the flames of hell will never touch the believer

V. This is the fashion which thou shalt make it of…(Genesis 6:15)

  • The Ark was not beautiful, it was a vessel made to bear the wrath of God
  • Jesus Christ was not made to be beautiful but to bear the wrath of God (Isaiah 53:2)
  • Application: God doesn’t want you to trust in beauty (Proverbs 31:30).  The devil was the most beautiful creature God made (Ezekiel 28:12)

VI. A window shalt thou make to the ark…above (Genesis 6:16)

  • The only view from the ark was a view toward heaven
  • Jesus Christ’s single view while on this earth was for heaven (Hebrews 12:2)
  • Application:our view in this world should be for the things of heaven
  • Matthew 6:20… lay up treasures in heaven
  • Colossians 3:2… set your affection…

VII. and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof…(Genesis 6:16)

  • The opening to the ark was in the side and Jesus Christ was opened in his side (John 19:34-37)
  • The door was dimensionless so that all who want to come in can
  • Revelation 22:17
  • Door the only entrance to the ark so Jesus Christ is the only way, the Door (John 10:9)

VIII. With lower, second and third stories shalt thou make it… (Genesis 6:16)

  • The ark must be entered at the lowest point and a man comes to Christ as a sinner with nothing else (Matthew 9:12-13)

IX. but with thee will I establish my covenant… (Genesis 6:18)

  • promises of God to those IN the ark likewise the promises of God to those IN Jesus Christ (Ephesians 3:6, 11)
  • everything you get from God you get through Jesus Christ
  • the promises are in the Ark, you can get on board or stay off

X. to keep them alive with thee… to keep them alive…(Genesis 6:19-20)

  • the Ark was life and Jesus Christ is life (John 14:6, 10:10)

XI. Take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten… (Genesis 6:21)

  • No one on the ark starved or dehydrated and you will not hunger or thirst in Jesus Christ (John 6:35)

XII. Come thou and all thy house into the ark… (Genesis 7:1)

  • the Ark was entered by invitation of and God makes the same invitation by Jesus Christ (Matthew 11:28)
  • Notice also “all thy house” just like Acts 16:31

XIII. Entering the ark meant leaving this world behind

  • Following Jesus Christ means leaving this world behind (Luke 9:62; 2 Timothy 2:4)

  • the Lord shut them in the ark and the Lord shuts us in Jesus Christ (John 10:28)

  • the Ark was the only method of salvation and Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation (Acts 4:12)

XVIII. God remembered Noah, … and all that was with him in the ark (Genesis 8:1)

  • God remembered those in the Ark and God remembers those in Jesus Christ (Hebrews 6:10)

XIX. and the ark rested in the seventh month on the seventeenth day of the month (Genesis 8:4)

  • passover killed on the 14th
  • Leviticus 23:5
  • Jesus Christ resurrected on the 17
  • this seventh month is also the date of Jesus Christ’s birth and second coming
  • it would be in our month of September
  • SEPT means Seven even though it is our 9th month

XX. the ark rested… (Genesis 8:4)

  • the ark had a definite task to do and after completion it rested likewise Jesus Christ set out with a certain task and rested after it was finished (Hebrews 10:12)
